1.0 Musculoskeletal Disorders

Action:
Encourage the cessation of the use of Foundation Blocks.

By whom :
CEF to ask members to stop specifying.
QPA to approach suppliers.
HSENI to check application of Risk Asssessment where Foundation Blocks found in use.

When: October 2006

2.0 Kerb-laying

Action:
To introduce mechanical handling of kerbs

By whom :
Construction Industry Group will encourage industry to commit to HSE guidance on the use of mechanical kerb handling.
Road Service to specify the use of mechanical handling of kerbs in contract documents
HSENI to enforce the guidance as from 2 nd October 2006.

When: October 2006

3.0 Welfare Facilities

Action :
to ensure adequate Welfare Facilities are provided on all sites

By whom :
The construction industry to be encouraged by CEF.
HSENI to use enforcement powers to achieve compliance.

When : Sept. 2006

4.0 Health Section in Site Induction Training

Action:
Include a Section on health in Site Induction Training

By whom :
Principle contractors / Suppliers to include a section on health as part of induction training. Building a Healthy Workplace Group to produce a health induction presentation

When: November 2006

5.0 Health section to be included in CSR Card Training

Action :
CSR to have a specific element on health issues.

By whom:
To be taken to Joint Council (CEF)

When: approach by Sept 2006

6.0 Conference on Health

Action:
Conference on health in construction to be run in two locations

By whom:
Building a Healthier Workplace Group in conjunction with NISG / NICON
(David Wallace/ Nicola Ward to scope and prepare a draft program by Oct' 06) - Principal Contractors to use influence to ensure attendance by Sub-contractors.

When: Spring 2007

7.0 Use of Health Champions in Large Projects (over £10 million)

Action:
Develop a role for a health champion in projects over £10 million

By whom:
John Boyd & Jim Leitch to develop role and responsibilities of health champion and report back to the Group

When: Sept. 2006

8.0 Promotion Messages

Action:
Promotional messages (delivery via courses, pay packets, posters, emails etc..) - request through CEF that Principal Contractors use such methods to inform and promote.

By whom:
Dr Skan to draft some key messages ( Portfolio of best practice; Drugs & Alcohol etc.).

When: Sept. 2006.
